Cleaning staff achieving higher standards since taking up NVQS
Staff at a Staffordshire cleaning company are not only happier in their work but are completing their daily tasks to a higher standard since embarking on NVQ training.
Seven cleaners with S&E Cleaning Services in Burton upon Trent are currently taking NVQ2s in cleaning and support services via Corporate College in Derby and are finding the course most rewarding.
S&E’s managing director Andy Brissett said he had been pleasantly surprised by his team’s enthusiasm for learning and was now planning to ask the college to extend NVQs to other members of staff.
He added: “NVQs are great for us. For one thing they’re free as the training’s paid for by the Government but they’re also worth pursuing as they help staff to further their skills.
“Since enrolling the team on the course they’re working to an even higher standard and taking greater pride in their work.
“For some of our staff – particularly the older ladies – studying is not something they’ve done since they were at school but they’re all very keen to learn.”
Based at Anglesey Business Centre in Burton, S&E employs 54 staff and has more than 15 years experience in the contract cleaning industry.
As well as meeting the office cleaning needs of private businesses such as solicitors and accountants the company is also contracted to undertake cleaning for several schools and colleges in Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
Encouraging its staff to become better qualified is all part of the business’s ethos of enhancing its capabilities and increasing its competitiveness.
Last year S&E received accreditation under the flagship SAFE contractor scheme – the programme which recognises the very highest standards of health and safety practice among UK contractors.
